The County Road accessing Grahams Island was built in 2005 to the elevation of 1455 feet. The water level of Devils Lake has been rising the past few years (see the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service for Eastern ND - for current water levels). This has caused flooding, debris on the road and damage to the road. To deal with these issues the road is being raised. Currently (as of 05/16/2012) work continues on the road raise. Expect some delays. Be aware that the road surface is currently gravel.
Update (05/16/2012)
Work continues on placing fill on the north end of the project. If all goes well, fill could be in place by the end of the month. As of today a water truck has been permanently assigned to the project to control dust. Riprapping is to begin on Monday, May 21.
Grahams Island State Park visitors should plan for some driving delays due to the construction. Additionally, the entrance road to the park will remain gravel for a large portion of the summer camping season.
