Friday, July 25
- 6:30 pm - Canoe/kayak demonstration-- The Sheyenne River is enjoyed by many all over the area. If you are interested in canoeing or kayaking the Sheyenne River, come to the Visitor Center for some tips on canoeing before you head out onto the river
Saturday, July 26
- 10:00 am-- Kids and Dakota Explorers: Here’s your chance to be explorers and naturalists JUST like Lewis and Clark! Meet Park Interpreter Katie at the Visitor Center where we will be making our own nature journals!
- 2:00 pm – Sunne farm tour–join our costumed interpreter for a tour of the historic Sunne farmstead. Follow the signs and meet at the Sunne farm.
- 4:30 pm – Living history demonstration— Dakota explorers/living history demonstrations—ice cream in a bag, homemade! Meet at the Sunne farm
- 8:30 pm — Many of our ancestors came across the Atlantic in search of a better life. Come to the amphitheater for a presentation on what they brought, and what they left behind. Learn how to write a letter home the old-fashioned way!
Sunday, July 27
- 11:00 am—Nature hike—Join the Park Interpreter on a hike in search of wild, edible plants. Meet at the Visitor Center grounds!
- 12:00 pm-- Sunne farm tour–join our costumed interpreter for a tour of the historic Sunne farmstead. Follow the signs and meet at the Sunne farm.
August 1-3

Saturday, August 2
- 11:00 am-- Join Park Interpreter Katie Ledin for a leisurely stroll along Ridgeline Trail. Along the way, learn more about others who have tread upon the Sheyenne River Valley in the long-ago past. Bring comfy shoes, water, bug spray and sunblock (if needed), and your camera!
- 2:00 pm – Sunne farm tour–join our costumed interpreter for a tour of the historic Sunne farmstead. Follow the signs and meet at the Sunne farm.
- 4:00 pm –Candle-making demonstration. Meet at the Sunne farmstead.
- 8:00 pm — Camping on a budget”—The recent rise in gas prices has certainly been burning a hole through our pockets. Join us in the amphitheater for some tips on camping on a budget. Leave with easy recipes and a bag of trail mix! After the program—Join us for a campfire and some s’mores!

- 11:00 am—Dakota explorers—netting for creatures in the Sheyenne River. Meet at the Visitor Center.

- 2:00 PM—Sunne farm tour–join our costumed interpreter for a tour of the historic Sunne farmstead. Follow the signs at meet at the Sunne farm.
- 4:30 PM—living history demonstration—tinkering. Meet at the Sunne farmstead.
- 8:00 PM--At Waters’ Edge—join us in the amphitheater to learn about the water in North Dakota and what we can do to help. After the program—join us for a campfire and some s’mores!
Sunday, August 17
- 11:00 AM—an “un-nature” hike—Meet at the Visitor Center for an unusual hike along the Little Twig trail with the Park Interpreter!

2008 Special Events
May 26—MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY. Free admission to any state park on Memorial Day, in honor of past and present servicemen and women.
June 7—National Trails Day. Hike with the Park Manager. Meet at the park’s Visitor Center at 10 a.m.
July 12-13—Sodbuster Days. Celebration of early 20th century farm life with demonstrations of farming with horses, homemaking skills, music, farm-style food and more.
August 10—Visitor Appreciation Day. Free park entrance.
September 6-7—Sodbuster Days. The fall event focuses on harvest techniques from the early 20th century.
September 27-28—Sheyenne Valley Arts and Crafts Association Fall Festival. 41st annual festival held in the town of Fort Ransom.
