Winter Activities

January 2 – Turtle River State Park - Learn to Cross Country Ski with Ski & Bike Shop
Saturday,1 pm – Join us at the Chalet to learn how to cross country ski on some of our 6 miles of groomed ski trails.  When you are finished skiing join us for crafts and hot coco by the Chalet fire.  Skis (adult and children) will be available to check out courtesy of Ski and Bike Shop.

January 9 – Winter Wildlife Watch Walk Turtle River State Park
Saturday,1 pm – join us at the Visitor Center to make a twig picture frames as we discuss the best way to capture wildlife on your camera. Afterwards we will leave the Chalet for a guided wildlife watch walk.  Bring your binoculars and cameras to capture memories of what we discover.  Dress appropriately for being outdoors for an extended period of time.

January 16 – Snow Science Turtle River State Park
Saturday,1 pm – Meet at the Visitor Center to learn about how snowflakes are formed and how to use North Dakota’s cold weather to make art.  Join by the fire to Roast Marsh mellows afterwards

January 23 – Turtle River State Park. Which way did they go?
Saturday,1 pm – Meet us at the Visitor Center for an exploration of animal tracks and animal behavior. Each person will make a their own set of animal tracks as we learn about the different types of animals in TRSP.

January 30 – Turtle River State Parkl Winter Birds
Saturday,1 pm –  join us at the Visitor Center to make a bird feeder as we learn about the different types of birds found in TRSP in the winter.

Saturday, Feb. 6 – Lichen Hunt

1 pm – Join us at the Visitor Center to learn about lichens.  After the program we will go on a trail and see how many lichens we can identify.

Saturday, Feb. 13 – Whose Coat?

1 pm – Join us at the Visitor Center to create your own pet rock as we discover what makes each animal different & learn Fun Fur Facts.

Saturday, Feb. 20  – It’s All About Survival

1 pm – Do you have the skill to survive in the outdoor during winter?     Join us at the Visitor Center to learn basic winter survival skills.  Preregistration is required for this event.  To register call                   701-594-4445.

Saturday, Feb. 27– It’s All in the Evidence!

1 pm – Join us at the Visitor Center to learn about insects in the winter.  Learn about insect habitats, behaviors and patterns as the survive from season to season.  Afterwards join us in creating your own insect habitat.
