Icelandic State Park Hosts Family Fun in the Sun Weekend

Icelandic State Park will be hosting a Family Fun in the Sun Event this year in place of Kids weekend. After careful consideration, the staff at Icelandic State Park has made the difficult decision to cancel Kids Weekend 2020. “Even though we are not able to host Kids Weekend this year, we are excited that we will be able to provide a fun weekend filled with activities that the whole family can enjoy,” said Molly Skadsen, Park Interpreter “We are looking forward to planning the 35th Kids Weekend in 2021 and hope to see you all back next year.”

The Family Fun in the Sun event will be held during the weekend of August 7 – 9.  Activities include a scavenger hunt, coloring contest, sandcastle contest, beach bingo, ISP Clue, medallion hunt, and a campsite-decorating contest. Families will be able to complete several of the activities on their own throughout the weekend. The park is also hosting a campsite decorating contest. Campers are encouraged to decorate their sites based on their favorite past Kids Weekend theme. Past themes include the Caribbean, Pirates, Dinosaurs, Wild West, Halloween, Carnival, and Safari, to name a few. Park visitors will be encouraged to walk or drive through the campground and pick their favorite decorated site. The campsite voted as fan-favorite will receive a prize. Full event details will be announced soon.

The department would like to remind visitors to follow the CDC's guidelines on social distancing and personal hygiene while visiting the park.

The mission of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is to offer a diversity of recreation opportunities and sustainably manage resources.
