Bismarck, ND – The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce Michelle Cunningham as the new Park Manager at Turtle River State Park.

Cunningham began her transition into the role earlier this month and is now fully on-site.

“Michelle’s deep operational expertise and passion for connecting people with the outdoors make her a fantastic fit for Turtle River State Park,” said Justin Robinson, NDPRD East Region Operations Chief.

Michelle brings a wealth of experience in park operations, leadership, and community engagement. She most recently managed multiple South Carolina state parks, where she led teams, improved infrastructure, and strengthened partnerships with local organizations. Her proven commitment to visitor experience and operational excellence aligns closely with NDPRD’s mission to deepen connections to our state’s parks and natural resources.

“It’s an honor to step into this role,” said Cunningham. “Turtle River State Park offers something special for every visitor, and I look forward to supporting our staff and becoming part of the community that loves this park.”

In addition to her public sector leadership, Michelle has a successful entrepreneurial background, having built and operated her own business prior to entering state park management. With both strategic insight and hands-on execution, she is well-equipped to support the continued growth of Turtle River State Park and the surrounding area.

The mission of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is to enrich generations through experiences that connect people and places.
