COVID Update

The North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department would first like to extend our gratitude for all of the support we have seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors have done a great job of social distancing while using the parks and following all the rules we have set in place. We wanted to provide an update as of May 4th:

Entrance Fees:

Daily and annual permits must be purchased online before you visit. Daily and annual permits are available online here. If possible, please print out your permits and place them in your vehicle.  If printing is not feasible, please have your daily permit available on your phone to show park staff during your visit.

Multi-unit camping and group sites are not allowed for this summer season. Sites that have traditionally been labeled as group sites will be available on the reservation system as a single site and will be charged as a single.

Campgrounds will be opening on May 9th for no-service camping. Electrical sites will have power but water may not be available on site. Entrance fees and reservations must be made prior to your visit.

Campgrounds will be opening May 21st for limited-service camping. Water, sewage, electricity, and dump stations are anticipated to be available.  Contact the park for confirmation.

Comfort Stations & Vault Toilets:

Prior to Memorial Day weekend, only vault toilets will be available. Comfort stations will begin opening with limited access starting Memorial Day weekend. Additional cleanings and closures should be expected this summer. Comfort stations will be closed overnight for additional deep cleaning. Cleaning schedules and closures will be posted outside of the buildings.

Cabins & Yurts:

Full-service cabins and yurts will not have all amenities traditionally available including, pots, pans, cooking utensils, dinnerware, coffee machines, and more. For specific information about your upcoming rental, please contact your park before you visit.

Visitor Centers & Park Buildings:

Prior to Memorial Day weekend, all buildings will remain closed. Buildings will be opening on a tiered approach and will have varied hours throughout the summer. Entrance fees and camping reservations must be made online. Shelters are available for household family use only, with no large gatherings or events.

Equipment Rentals:

Starting Memorial Day weekend, equipment rentals may be available but will be site-specific. No transportation options will be available until further notice. Please contact your park for specific information in regards to your rental needs.

Marinas & Boat Ramps:

Marinas will be opening on May 9th & 10th. Boat ramps are currently open, and courtesy docks have been placed in the water as the ice and lakes allow for it. Gas may or may not be available at this time; please check with the park.

Fishing Services:

Fish piers will be put in at the earliest on May 15th and fish cleaning stations will be open for use on May 21st.

Concessions & Retail:

Concession buildings will be opening as staffing allows starting Memorial Day weekend. Parks are making every effort to assure firewood, fuel, and ice are available where they would normally be available.

Dog Parks, Swim Beaches, Trails:

All dog parks, swim beaches, and trails are currently open.

Playgrounds & Special Events:

Playgrounds are closed at this time, and all special events have been canceled until further notice to comply with the CDC guidelines on group gatherings. Interpretive programming will be redesigned to meet CDC guidelines.

Once again, we thank you for your understanding. We ask that visitors follow the CDC's recommendations on social distancing and personal hygiene while visiting our properties. If you have questions about what to expect or service currently being offered at a location, please reach out to that location for the latest information.

Although operations will be modified, we look forward to offering excellent customer service and access to legendary outdoor experiences.
