Join us August 11-13 as reenactors and living historians from around the region come to portray soldiers from the 6th US Infantry, Co. B who built Fort Abraham Lincoln in 1872-73. Come talk to the frontier soldiers of the 6th US Infantry Regiment about life on the frontier, or watch from afar as they demonstrate what went into establishing a new fort on the frontier. Alongside the infantry, there will be reenactors representing the civilians present at the new fort who were selling their wares, some of which will be available for the public!

Official Schedule of Events/Activities:

Friday, August 11

6:30 p.m. – Retreat: The soldiers are formed, roll call is conducted, and daily orders are announced.

7:30 p.m. – “The Infantry of Fort McKeen” Interpretive Program: Reenactors will give an educational program discussing the soldiers of the Infantry who first established the fort.
 

Saturday, August 12

9 a.m. – Flag Raising: The soldiers conduct their Morning Parade and raise the nation’s colors.

9:30 a.m. – Kid’s Program: Children are welcome to participate in an hour-long program where they can learn about a soldier’s life on the western frontier in the 1870s.

10:30 a.m. – March to McKeen: The soldiers will pack up and march along the trails up to the site of the Infantry Post, come join and learn on this guided hike.

11:30 a.m. – Camp Set Up: The soldiers will set up camp in the manor of the frontier military.

12:30 p.m. – “Frontier Army Logistics” Interpretive Program: Soldiers will unload supplies while the process of Frontier Army Logistics is explained.

2-3:30 p.m. – Fatigue: Soldiers will conduct various projects and duties ranging from construction to guard. Explore and ask questions!

3:30 p.m. – “Offenses and Punishments” Interpretive Program: Come listen as a variety of period military offenses and punishments are discussed and as military justice is dished out.

4:30 p.m. – Bayonet Drill: The soldiers will drill with the infantry’s traditional side arm.
 

Sunday, August 13

9 a.m. – Flag Raising: The soldiers will conduct their Morning Parade and raise the flag.

10 a.m. – Patrol: Soldiers will patrol along the trails to the Cavalry Post

11 a.m. – Skirmish Drill: Soldiers will conduct drill that was used heavily in combat.

Noon – Final Formation / Event End


An annual or daily vehicle permit is required for park entrance and can be purchased online or at the park.
