Join us for the 34th annual Kids Weekend at Icelandic State Park. The theme this year is "Wild West".
To kick-off the weekend’s events, a Scavenger Hunt will be held at the amphitheater on Friday, August 9 at 8:00 pm. Teams of six will receive a list of items that they must find and bring back to the amphitheater. Parents and older kids are welcome to participate in this event.
The following events will take place at the picnic shelter on Saturday, August 10. Kids ages 9 - 12 can register for the Iron Kids Contest at 9:00 am. The contest will begin at 9:30 am. Participants must have a bicycle, bicycle helmet and closed toed running shoes. Kids ages 3 - 8 are invited to participate in the Aluminum Kids Contest at 11:00 am. Arts and Crafts, including tie-dying and button making, will be available from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Tie-dying participants must bring their own white t-shirt. A Seed-Spitting Contest will take place at 3:00 pm. A Family Obstacle Course will follow from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Teams of six will work together to complete six obstacles. The winning team from each heat will compete in the finals.
Coloring Contest pages will be located at the host site and must be turned back in by 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 10.
Thad’s Amazing Magic will be providing entertainment at the amphitheater at 7:00 pm. Following the show, there will be an Ice Cream Social and Door Prize Drawing to end the night.
The Fishing Derby will be open for registration at 9:00 am on Sunday, August 11 at the boat dock. This derby will begin at 9:30 am, and is for kids ages 15 and younger. In addition to the derby, a Sand Castle Contest will be held on the beach from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm. This event will be split into two age categories, 12 & under and 13 & older. Prizes will be given out following each event.
The events throughout Kids Weekend are free, but the park charges a $7 vehicle entrance fee unless a North Dakota State Park Annual Pass is displayed. Icelandic State Park is located 5 ½ miles west of Cavalier, ND on State Highway 5.
