First Day Hike

Ring in the New Year at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park with the 2026 First Day Hike. This annual tradition is a refreshing way to start the year outdoors and enjoy the beauty of winter in the park.

 

Come early! The Visitor Center will open one hour before the guided hike begins. Stop inside to purchase 2026 Annual Park Passes, gift cards, park apparel, and more. Warm up with complimentary hot chocolate and coffee beside a cozy, roaring fire before heading out on the trail.

 

The guided hike officially begins at 1 p.m., and participants are encouraged to arrive early. Please dress appropriately for winter conditions. Trails may be muddy and/or snow-covered, and tall hiking boots are recommended. This hike is not stroller-friendly. In the event of adverse weather, the route may be shortened.

 

The event is free with a North Dakota State Parks Annual Pass or a $7 vehicle entrance fee. Don’t have an annual pass? Passes can be purchased online or on-site the day of the hike.
