Join us for a unique Harvest Hike: Walking Trivia, a perfect blend of exploration, learning, and hands-on harvesting! This family-friendly hike begins at the Visitor Center and ends at the historic On-A-Slant Village. Along the way, a Park Ranger will put your knowledge to the test with fun trivia about the traditional crops grown by the Mandan people.
Hike difficulty: Easy to moderate
Stroller-friendly? Yes!
Pets? Welcome! They must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
After the hike, roll up your sleeves and help us gather this year’s Three Sisters Garden crops! We’ll be harvesting heirloom varieties of corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers grown by the Mandan people for generations. The best part? Everything you help harvest, you get to take home, while supplies last!
Our team will share fascinating insights into Mandan agricultural traditions: how they planted, tended, and stored their crops, the tools they used, and how these foods sustained their communities.
NOTE: Bees and other pollinators frequent the sunflowers. If you have bee allergies, please take precautions and maintain a safe distance. Gardening tools will be provided for all helpers!
Come for the hike, stay for the harvest, and leave with fresh-picked history! See you there!
