Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

Join us for Harvest Hike: Walking Trivia at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, a family-friendly event that combines an easy to moderate hike with hands-on harvesting and learning.

The hike begins at the Visitor Center and ends at the historic On-A-Slant Village, with a Park Ranger leading fun trivia along the way focused on traditional crops grown by the Mandan people. The trail is stroller-friendly, and leashed pets are welcome.

After the hike, participants can help harvest crops from the Three Sisters Garden, including heirloom varieties of corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers. Participants may take home a portion of what they help harvest while supplies last.

Throughout the event, park staff will share insights into Mandan agricultural traditions, including planting, harvesting, and food preservation practices.

Please note that bees and other pollinators are often present near the sunflowers. Those with allergies should take appropriate precautions. Gardening tools will be provided. Event schedule is subject to change. The event is free of charge and open to the public. An annual or daily vehicle permit is required for park entrance and can be purchased online or at the park.
