Tapping trees for syrup in North Dakota. Join us at Fort Stevenson on April 11 and learn how to make maple syrup.
Park staff will demonstrate how to tap trees, collect sap and turn it into delicious maple syrup. Hear about the history of maple syrup and the equipment used. Maple talk presentations take place at 10:00 am, Noon and 2:00 pm. Horse-drawn wagon ride, see how to make sugar on the snow and hands-on activities for the kids happen throughout the day. Enjoy live music, Moon Cats perform at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Don't miss out!
Enjoy delicious pure maple syrup on pancakes. A pancake and sausage breakfast will be served by the Sakakawea Area Optimist Club starting at 9:00 am while supplies last.
Calling all cooks for a Maple Cooking Contest. Category: Sweets (Pie/Cookie/Bar) Age Classes: Adult (18 years and older) Youth (under 18 years old) Entry fee: $10. Prizes awarded: First Place $100, Second Place $75, Third Place $50. Bring your entry on Maple Sugaring Day to the Guardhouse between 10:00 am and Noon.
