Celebrate the North Country National Scenic Trail in North Dakota with a weekend of hiking, history, and community! In partnership with the Central Flyway Chapter, Lake Sakakawea State Park is hosting two days of guided hikes, educational programs, and family-friendly fun.
Friday, Aug. 22
6:00 p.m. – Sunset Hike along the Bluffs (3 miles). Learn about Riverdale, the Garrison Dam, and the legend of Misty the Mermaid. Register here.
8:30 p.m. – S’mores & Sunsets at Fishing Point. Gather by the fire for stories, s’mores, and sunset views (telescopes available if skies are clear).
Saturday, Aug. 23
8:30 a.m. – Morning Hike at Audubon National Wildlife Refuge (2 or 4 miles). Explore native prairie and wildlife conservation. Register here.
11:00 a.m. – History Program at the amphitheater with Outdoor Educator Mike.
1:00 p.m. – Grand Finale Hikes (2 or 4.5 miles) ending at the Western Terminus Arch of the North Country Trail. Celebrate with a commemorative photo and keepsake. Register here.
5:00 p.m. – Grand Finale Picnic at the park Special Events Shelter. Pulled pork, sides, dessert, and yard games. $12 per person. Register here.
An annual or daily vehicle permit is required for park entrance and can be purchased online or at the park.
